These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy infants, but caution is important if your child is seriously ill or has a weakened immune system. Rare side effects have been reported: abdominal discomfort, bloating, flatulence, constipation, and in one case a dry cough.

In rare cases, especially in critically ill or preterm infants, certain Bifidobacterium species have caused bacteremia (bacteria in the bloodstream), sometimes presenting as sepsis. This risk is highest in very sick newborns or those with congenital heart defects.

For breastfeeding, Bifidobacterium bifidum is rated possibly safe, but data are limited for the others and aren't on file for several ingredients. Talk with your pediatrician before starting this product, especially if your infant has any serious illness or immune concerns.

Suggested Use: For children over 12 months: 1 scoop, once or twice daily. For infants 6 to 12 months: 1 scoop daily. Mix product in infant formula, milk, juice, or sprinkled on food such as yogurt, apple sauce or cereal or as recommended by your healthcare professional. For breast-feeding mothers, product can be added to expressed milk, or small amounts at a time can be dispensed by placing on nipple or finger.

Most infants tolerate this well. Rarely, abdominal discomfort, bloating, flatulence, or constipation may occur. One case of a dry cough was reported in a trial, but it's unclear if the probiotic caused it. Stop and call your doctor if you notice fever or worsening symptoms.
Is there evidence this will help my infant's digestion or immunity?
