Probiotic 123 Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Probiotic 123 against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic 123 by Pure Encapsulations
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Probiotic 123 contains four active probiotic ingredients: Lactobacillus acidophilus (La-14), Bifidobacterium lactis (Bl-04), Bifidobacterium bifidum (Bb-06), and a Probiotic Blend. These are all live beneficial bacteria meant to support your gut health.
The powder also contains rice starch as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The data we hold show Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). L. acidophilus is also possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Helicobacter pylori infection, and bacterial vaginosis.
B. bifidum is possibly effective for respiratory tract infections. For other conditions listed — allergic rhinitis, anxiety, and Alzheimer disease — we either don't have enough reliable evidence to rate these ingredients, or the data suggest they're ineffective.
We have no effectiveness data on file for Bifidobacterium lactis.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, because they're live organisms, there's a theoretical concern they could cause infection in people with very weakened immune systems — check with your doctor before starting if that applies to you.
Uncommon gastrointestinal side effects (bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea) have been reported with probiotic use; a small number of trial participants experienced rash or itching, though it's unclear whether the probiotics were responsible. For pregnancy, the data suggest Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are possibly safe, but lactation safety data aren't on file for either ingredient — talk with your healthcare provider about whether this product is right for you during breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs are the main concern: taking them at the same time as this probiotic may reduce how well the probiotic works. Separate the timing with your doctor or pharmacist's guidance.
No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Probiotic 123 may help with IBS, antibiotic-related diarrhea, or a few other digestive and respiratory concerns, depending on which strains matter most for your situation. The main thing to watch for is antibiotic use — you'll want to time your doses apart so the antibiotics don't kill off the live probiotics before they work.
If you have a weakened immune system or are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Probiotic 123 by Pure Encapsulations Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Probiotic 123 by Pure Encapsulations contains several live-organism ingredients — Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and a Probiotic Blend — that interact with antibiotics.
The most serious concern is Moderate: taking these probiotics at the same time as antibiotic drugs might kill off a significant number of the live organisms and decrease the probiotic's effectiveness.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The interaction is straightforward: antibiotics don't discriminate between harmful bacteria and the beneficial ones in your supplement. To protect the probiotics, separate when you take them from when you take antibiotics — your doctor or pharmacist can advise you on the timing that works best for your situation.
We could not check Bifidobacterium lactis (Bl-04) — we hold no interaction data for it. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of your prescriptions are affected, and run the list by your own pharmacist or doctor before you start.
