Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Her Own
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy
Probiotic is a dietary supplement by Her Own with 2 active ingredients. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic by Her Own
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Her Own Probiotic contains 12 active ingredients: five species of Lactobacillus (acidophilus, plantarum, paracasei, casei, helveticus, gasseri, and rhamnosus), three species of Bifidobacterium (longum, bifidum, and a Probiotic Blend container), Streptococcus thermophilus, Enterococcus faecium, and inulin. The Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains are live-culture probiotics intended to support gut health; Streptococcus thermophilus is also a probiotic organism; and inulin is a prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria already in your digestive tract.
The capsule itself contains inactive ingredients: hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silica.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Evidence for this product's effectiveness is mixed and often limited. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis, but possibly ineffective for atopic disease.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. Inulin is possibly effective for obesity, constipation, and diabetes.
However, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus gasseri, and Streptococcus thermophilus all have insufficient evidence for the conditions studied—meaning we don't yet know whether they work. The evidence we hold doesn't establish whether this combination as a whole is effective for any particular health goal.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Generally well tolerated by healthy adults and children, though all the bacterial strains carry cautions for people with weakened immune systems or serious illness—a rare but documented concern is that live probiotic organisms can cause infection (bacteremia, sepsis) in critically ill or immunocompromised patients. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, and cramping, especially with inulin at higher doses.
Rash and itching have been reported rarely in one trial. Pregnancy data for Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Streptococcus thermophilus, and inulin rate as possibly safe; data are not on file for Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus gasseri, and others.
Lactation safety data are not on file for most ingredients except inulin (likely safe). Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Her Own Probiotic, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antibiotics—the live organisms in this product may be killed by these drugs, reducing its effectiveness (space them several hours apart if you take both). If you take antidiabetes medications, be aware of a minor theoretical risk of low blood sugar.
People with severely weakened immune systems or critical illness should discuss this with their provider, as rare infections from live probiotics have been reported in those groups.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Her Own Probiotic is a multi-strain formula that's generally well tolerated and may help with certain gut-related conditions, though evidence is incomplete for many of its strains. If you take antibiotics or antidiabetes drugs, or if you have a weakened immune system or serious illness, check with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Expect possible bloating and gas, especially at first. Have your healthcare provider review your exact medications against the interactions on this page.

Probiotic by Her Own Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Her Own Probiotic may interact with medications through its Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus helveticus, and Lactobacillus gasseri content.
The most serious documented interaction is Moderate severity: antibiotics may kill the live organisms in these probiotic strains, reducing the supplement's effectiveness. Since probiotic preparations contain living bacteria, taking them at the same time as antibiotics could significantly decrease how many active organisms survive in your system.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Additionally, inulin (a prebiotic fiber also in this formula) carries a Minor interaction with antidiabetes drugs. Inulin may theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in people taking diabetes medications, though it's not entirely clear whether it has blood-sugar-lowering effects on its own.
We could not check three other bacterial species in this product—Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and Enterococcus faecium—because we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 268 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to see whether any of your prescriptions are affected before you start.

For each ingredient in Probiotic with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Probiotic Blend
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Inulin
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, inulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia with antidiabetes drugs.
Some clinical research shows that inulin improves glycemic control in patients with diabetes; however, it is unclear if it has hypoglycemic effects.
