Most of the bacterial strains in this product are generally well tolerated by healthy adults and children. The most common side effect reported is mild gastrointestinal discomfort—abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence, and diarrhea—especially when you first start taking it or at higher doses.

Fructooligosaccharides can also cause gas and bloating, particularly at higher doses. A small number of patients taking probiotic combinations have reported rash with itching, though it's unclear whether the probiotics were responsible.

In rare cases, probiotics have been associated with serious infections like bacteremia or sepsis, but these occurred almost exclusively in people with severely weakened immune systems, indwelling catheters, or critical illness. Healthy people with intact immune systems have very low risk.
