These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though the data are limited in some areas. The main concern is rare but serious: since these are live microorganisms, there's a small risk of infection — bacteremia or sepsis — in people who are critically ill, severely immunocompromised, or have indwelling catheters or recent surgery.
