What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • “Reishi Fruiting Body Extract” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label gives one combined amount (1,600 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

This product contains one active ingredient: beta-glucans (specifically 1,3/1,6 Beta-D-Glucans), which are natural compounds that support heart and cholesterol health. The beta-glucans are derived from Reishi Fruiting Body Extract.

There are no added fillers or inactive ingredients listed.

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Beta-glucans's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: immune support, stress, sleep, and general wellness.
  • We looked for evidence on: Stress, Insomnia, Psychological well-being, Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Cancer-related fatigue, Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) — and 4 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Beta-glucans is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Cancer (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Beta-glucans is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI), Lower respiratory tract infections.

Beta-glucans in this product are rated Likely Effective for two conditions: high cholesterol (dyslipidemia) and coronary heart disease. The evidence supports their use for cardiovascular health, though as with any supplement, results can vary from person to person.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Beta-glucans from food sources are generally well tolerated. However, concentrated supplement doses haven't been studied as thoroughly as food amounts, so the data advises caution with higher doses.

When taken by mouth, they cause very few side effects. Topical products containing beta-glucans have occasionally caused mild, short-lived skin reactions or contact dermatitis in a small number of trial participants.

There's little safety data on supplement doses during breastfeeding, so caution is advised — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this while breastfeeding.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Beta-glucans.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: immunosuppressants / transplant drugs.
  • For scale: 293 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, double-check with your pharmacist if you're on blood pressure medications (Moderate risk) or immunosuppressants like those used after transplant (Moderate risk). Beta-glucans can lower blood pressure and may interfere with immune-suppressing drugs.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you take blood pressure or immunosuppressant medications, check with your pharmacist before starting. The beta-glucans here have solid evidence for heart and cholesterol support.

It's generally well tolerated, but concentrated supplements need a conversation with your healthcare provider first, especially if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Formula

Reishi (Ganoderma lingzhi), also known as the "Mushroom of Immortality" has been used in Chinese Medicine for at least 2,000 years and has been documented in some of the earliest phamacopoeia texts in Asia. Reishi was traditionally used as a tonic to strengthen vital energy or "Qi", and was thought to help support balance and inner strength. Valued as a potent adaptogen in modern herbalism, reishi may help the body adapt to stress, and supports the maintenance of a healthy immune system. Reishi has a deep woodsy, bitter flavor. Our pure, wood-grown reishi mushroom extract is made by hot water extraction using the fruiting body of the fungi.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.

Reishi by HealthForce SuperFoods: Common Questions

Does Reishi by HealthForce SuperFoods interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Reishi has a known interaction with 494 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Reishi contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this interact with my blood pressure medication?
Possibly, yes — beta-glucans can lower blood pressure, so combining them with blood pressure meds might cause your pressure to drop too far. Talk to your pharmacist about your specific medication and dosage before starting.
Is this safe to take while breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data on concentrated supplement doses during breastfeeding to know either way. Chat with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
What does beta-glucans do in this product?
Beta-glucans support heart and cholesterol health. The evidence is strong for helping with high cholesterol and coronary heart disease.
Are there any side effects?
When taken by mouth, beta-glucans are very well tolerated with few side effects. Topical products containing beta-glucans have rarely caused mild, short-lived skin reactions in some trial participants.
Can I take this if I'm on an immunosuppressant?
Check with your pharmacist first. Beta-glucans boost immune function, which might work against immunosuppressant medications (like those used after transplant), so they need to review your specific situation.
