Serrapeptase Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Serrapeptase against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Serrapeptase by Healthy Directions
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains a single active ingredient: serrapeptase, an enzyme that works by breaking down fibrin — a protein involved in inflammation and clot formation. The capsule also includes inactive ingredients (rice flour, hypromellose, and stearic acid) that serve as fillers and binders.
Does it work?
No specific claim
The evidence for serrapeptase isn't established in the data we hold. For chronic bronchitis, asthma, atherosclerosis, back pain, and osteoporosis — conditions it's sometimes marketed for — the reliability of evidence is insufficient to rate whether it works.
You'll want to talk with your doctor about whether this is the right choice for your specific health goals.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Serrapeptase is generally well tolerated when taken short-term. The most common side effects are epigastric pain (discomfort in the upper abdomen), gastrointestinal upset, and nausea — though these appear to occur at rates similar to placebo in trial settings.
A rare serious side effect, bullous pemphigoid (a blistering skin condition), has been reported. Long-term safety hasn't been well studied, so caution is warranted with extended use.
During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data, so it's best avoided. While breastfeeding, reliable safety information is lacking — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking serrapeptase, double-check any blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs you're on — this is a Moderate severity interaction. The combined effect could increase bleeding and bruising risk.
If you're unsure whether your medication falls into this category, use the interaction checker below or ask your pharmacist.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula marketed for general wellness rather than one specific gradeable purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Serrapeptase may appeal to you if you're exploring options for inflammation or clotting-related conditions, but the evidence for its effectiveness isn't established in our data. If you take any blood thinner or antiplatelet medication, check with your pharmacist first — the interaction risk is real.
Long-term safety is unknown, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Serrapeptase by Healthy Directions Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Serrapeptase by Healthy Directions does interact with a significant class of medications.
The main concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (medications that reduce clotting). Because serrapeptase has fibrinolytic activity — meaning it can break down fibrin, a protein involved in clot formation — taking it alongside these drugs might raise your risk of bruising and bleeding.
This is a Moderate severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Although we've identified this interaction category, the effect is theoretical rather than proven in humans. That said, if you take warfarin, apixaban, clopidogrel, aspirin for heart protection, or any other anticoagulant or antiplatelet drug, you'll want to check your specific medications with the tool below before starting serrapeptase.
Additionally, contact your pharmacist or doctor before combining serrapeptase with any blood-thinning medication. Altogether, these interactions span 122 individual medications.
