What’s inside
Full disclosure
Pure Herbs Sheep Sorrel is a one-ingredient liquid supplement made from sheep sorrel aerial parts extract. That's the leaves, stems, and flowers of the plant.
There are no other active ingredients, and no inactive fillers are listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for sheep sorrel isn't established yet. We hold data on three uses — bronchitis, breast cancer, and rhinosinusitis (inflamed sinuses) — and for all of them the evidence is insufficient to make a rating.
That means studies either haven't been done, are too small to trust, or are mixed. Right now we can't say whether this product works for any of these conditions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sorrel is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but the concentrated form in this supplement raises two concerns. Sorrel is high in oxalates, compounds that can build up in your kidneys and cause damage, especially with large or concentrated doses.
There's a documented case of a 12-year-old who developed kidney inflammation after consuming wild sorrel. Also, if you're allergic to weed pollen, you have a small chance (up to 19%) of reacting to sorrel pollen — you might get allergic rhinitis or bronchial asthma.
When taken with other herbs, sorrel has caused nausea and an unpleasant aftertaste in some people. For pregnancy and breastfeeding, the safety rating is Possibly Safe, meaning there isn't enough data to know for sure.
The data advises against concentrated medicinal amounts while breastfeeding. If you're pregnant or nursing and want to use this, talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications if you take any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, apixaban, or aspirin) — sorrel may add to their effects. Also flag any drugs transported by OATP proteins, including the allergy medication fexofenadine.
Use the search tool on this page to look up your exact prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Sheep sorrel might interest someone looking into traditional herbal remedies, but the evidence that it works for any condition isn't solid yet. If you take blood thinners, allergy medications, or any drug moved by OATP proteins, you'll want to check with us first.
If you have a history of kidney problems or weed pollen allergies, be cautious. Talk to your pharmacist before starting.

Sheep Sorrel by Pure Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pure Herbs Sheep Sorrel has documented interactions with blood thinners and a couple of other drug types.
The most serious concern is with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs — blood thinners like warfarin and aspirin. Sorrel may add to their effects in theory, though we haven't seen this play out in people yet.
Lab work shows sorrel can slow platelet clumping, which is how blood clots form.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Sorrel may also interfere with a group of transport proteins in your gut and liver called OATPs (organic anion-transporting polypeptides). These proteins help move certain drugs into your cells so they can work.
If sorrel blocks them, those drugs might not be absorbed as well. This includes the allergy medication fexofenadine (Allegra).
Both of these interactions are rated Moderate.
Altogether, these interactions span 169 individual medications. Use the medication checker below to see if any of your prescriptions or over-the-counter drugs are affected.
If you take a blood thinner or any medication transported by OATPs, run it through before you start.

Sheep Sorrel aerial parts extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, sorrel might cause additive effects and side effects when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro, sorrel has been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
Fexofenadine (Allegra)
Sorrel might reduce the effectiveness of fexofenadine by reducing its absorption from the gut.
In vitro research shows that an ethanol extract of sorrel inhibits organic anion-transporting polypeptide 1A2 (OATP1A2), which transports fexofenadine from the intestine into cells. In rats, concomitant administration of sorrel extract with fexofenadine reduces oral absorption of fexofenadine and the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC).
Organic Anion-Transporting Polypeptide Substrates (Oatp)
Sorrel might reduce the effectiveness of OATP substrates by reducing their absorption from the gut.
In vitro research shows that sorrel inhibits OATP1A2. Theoretically it may inhibit other OATPs. The OATPs are expressed in the small intestine and liver and transport drugs into cells. Inhibition of OATP may reduce the bioavailability of oral drugs that are substrates of OATP.
