Shilajit is generally well tolerated, though a small number of cases have been reported. One person developed a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) after previous use at a lower dose, requiring emergency treatment.

Headache has been reported rarely in clinical research. A case of high blood pressure associated with potassium imbalance was reported in someone who used shilajit during pregnancy, though it's unclear whether shilajit was the actual cause.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
