Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Shilajit Capsules contains one active ingredient: shilajit (750 mg per capsule), a mineral-rich resinous substance from mountain rock. The capsule itself is made from plant material (veggie capsule) and includes silicon dioxide as an inactive ingredient.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Shilajit product and its label doesn't state a use — see Shilajit's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for shilajit is limited. We hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), or osteoporosis.

This means either the research is sparse, mixed, or hasn't met the standard for a clear rating — not that it doesn't work, but that we can't confidently say it does based on the studies available.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Shilajit is generally well tolerated, though a small number of cases have been reported. Rare side effects include headache and, in very rare cases, allergic reactions ranging from hives to severe anaphylaxis (a life-threatening reaction requiring emergency treatment).

One case of very high blood pressure was reported in a person who took shilajit during pregnancy, though it's unclear whether shilajit was the cause. Because unpurified shilajit may contain heavy metals or other harmful contaminants, use only purified, tested brands.

The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know whether it's safe for you or your baby in either situation.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Shilajit.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 86 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product if you're on antidiabetes drugs (like metformin or glibenclamide). Shilajit may increase their blood-sugar-lowering power and raise your risk of low blood sugar, so you may need dosing adjustments or blood sugar monitoring.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Shilajit may help with various conditions, but the evidence isn't established well enough to confidently recommend it for any of them. If you take any blood sugar–lowering medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, since shilajit can boost their effect and lower your blood sugar too much.

Always buy purified, tested versions to avoid heavy metal contamination. Talk it over with your healthcare provider to see if it makes sense for you.

Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.

Shilajit Capsules 750 mg by Herbal Hills: Common Questions

Does Shilajit Capsules 750 mg by Herbal Hills interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Shilajit Capsules 750 mg has a known interaction with 86 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Shilajit Capsules 750 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take shilajit if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. The safety data advises against shilajit during pregnancy, and there isn't enough information about safety while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.
Does shilajit actually work?
The evidence isn't strong enough yet to say for sure. We have insufficient reliable evidence for the uses commonly promoted — Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, prostate health, and bone strength — so we can't confidently recommend it for any of them.
What are the side effects?
Most people tolerate it well. Rarely, headache occurs. Very rarely, allergic reactions ranging from hives to life-threatening anaphylaxis have been reported. A case of high blood pressure was also reported, though a direct link to shilajit isn't confirmed.
Why does the label say to use purified shilajit only?
Unpurified shilajit can contain heavy metals and other contaminants that may harm you. Always buy from reputable, tested brands to reduce that risk.
Is 750 mg a standard dose?
The facts we hold don't include dosing guidance, so we can't tell you whether this amount is standard. Follow the label instructions or talk with your pharmacist or doctor about the right dose for you.
