Smart Mind Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Roex
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Smart Mind against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Smart Mind by Roex
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Partial disclosure
Smart Mind contains 8 ingredients total, of which 4 are active. The active ones are huperzine A (derived from Chinese club moss, it works by blocking an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine, a brain chemical tied to memory and thinking), theacrine (a compound structurally similar to caffeine), phosphatidylserine (a naturally occurring fatty compound found in cell membranes, especially in the brain), and spearmint (an herb).
Rice bran extract is also included for its nutritional content. We don't have interaction data on file for rice concentrate, rosemarinic acid, or phenols.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and microcrystalline cellulose—which are common binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Huperzine A is possibly effective for Alzheimer disease, but evidence for its use in athletic performance, cognitive impairment, vascular dementia, depression, and memory is insufficient to rate. Phosphatidylserine is possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease, though evidence for athletic performance, ADHD, general cognitive function, and dementia is insufficient.
Theacrine's evidence for athletic performance, cognitive function, fatigue, mental alertness, and muscle strength is all insufficient to rate. Rice bran extract is possibly effective for cholesterol and lipid problems, but possibly ineffective for colorectal cancer risk, and evidence for hair loss is insufficient.
Spearmint's evidence for age-related cognitive decline, cognitive function, gas, irritable bowel syndrome, nausea after surgery, and osteoarthritis is all insufficient.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Huperzine A is a pharmacologically active compound and should be used with medical guidance. It's generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, but it can cause dose-dependent cholinergic side effects—blurred vision, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, nausea, sweating, and vomiting—as well as a slower heart rate.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Theacrine appears generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but long-term safety isn't established, and the safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety is not fully established; you may experience flatulence, gastrointestinal upset, headache, insomnia, or nausea, and it advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Rice bran is generally well tolerated as food; concentrated supplements may cause abdominal discomfort, gas, or loose stools, and rare allergic reactions including anaphylaxis have been reported.
Spearmint is well tolerated when used as food or tea; concentrated supplements warrant caution. One trial reported anxiety with high-dose spearmint extract in one person, though causation isn't certain.
There's conflicting safety information on spearmint in pregnancy—one source says likely safe and another says possibly unsafe—so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Smart Mind, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you use anticholinergic drugs (such as oxybutynin or scopolamine), cholinergic drugs (such as donepezil or pyridostigmine), CNS depressants (such as benzodiazepines, sleep aids, or opioids), or drugs that can damage the liver. All of these have documented moderate interactions with ingredients in this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Smart Mind may interest people looking to support memory and thinking, but the evidence for most ingredients is weak or missing. If you take medications for bladder control, myasthenia gravis, Alzheimer disease, sleep, anxiety, pain, or liver disease, you need to check this product against your specific drugs before starting.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.

Smart Mind by Roex Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Smart Mind by Roex contains huperzine A, theacrine, phosphatidylserine, and spearmint—ingredients that together interact with medications across several categories.
The most serious concern is a moderate interaction: huperzine A and phosphatidylserine may both decrease the effectiveness of anticholinergic drugs (medications that block acetylcholine, used for conditions like overactive bladder and certain types of poisoning). Altogether, these interactions span 731 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Both huperzine A and phosphatidylserine are also moderately expected to increase the effects and side effects of cholinergic drugs (medications that enhance acetylcholine activity, such as some treatments for myasthenia gravis and Alzheimer disease). Theacrine and spearmint each carry moderate interactions with CNS depressants (sedatives, sleep aids, opioids, and alcohol)—theacrine's effect depends on dose and could either enhance or reduce sedation, while spearmint's effect on sedation is uncertain.
Spearmint also has a moderate theoretical interaction with drugs that can damage the liver (hepatotoxic drugs), potentially increasing that risk at high doses.
We could not check rice concentrate, rosemarinic acid, or phenols—no interaction data is on file for these. Rice bran extract was checked and shows no documented interactions.
Before starting Smart Mind, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page and talk with your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you take any medication for bladder control, myasthenia gravis, Alzheimer disease, sleep, anxiety, pain, or liver disease.

For each ingredient in Smart Mind with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Mentha spicata L.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, spearmint might alter the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
Animal research suggests that (-)-carvone, a major constituent of spearmint, has sedative effects. However, in humans, chewing spearmint-flavored gum induced arousal effects.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of spearmint might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.
Animal research suggests that drinking spearmint tea for 30 days can increase markers of liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and cause liver degeneration and necrosis, in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Theacrine
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, theacrine might alter the effects of CNS depressants.
Animal research shows that low doses of theacrine have sedating effects, whereas high doses might have stimulant effects. Depending on the dose of theacrine used, it might increase or decrease the effects of CNS depressants. However, these effects have not yet been reported in humans.
Huperzine-A
Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, huperzine A might decrease the effects of anticholinergic drugs.
Huperzine A has acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibiting effects. In animal models, huperzine A reversed cognitive deficits induced by scopolamine, an anticholinergic drug.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of huperzine A with cholinergic drugs might increase the effects and side effects of these medications.
Huperzine A can inhibit acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and might cause cumulative effects if used with cholinergic drugs.
SerinAid PhosphatidylSerine
Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, phosphatidylserine might decrease the effectiveness anticholinergic drugs.
Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically interfere with the activity of anticholinergic agents.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, phosphatidylserine might have additive effects with cholinergic drugs.
Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically lead to additive cholinergic effects when used with cholinergic drugs.
