Spearmint + Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin brand names: Amoxil Capsules, Trimox, Wymox, Amix, Amoram, and others.
Spearmint has a moderate interaction with Amoxicillin. Theoretically, high doses of spearmint might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Spearmint interacts with.
Animal research suggests that drinking spearmint tea for 30 days can increase markers of liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and cause liver degeneration and necrosis, in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture: the worry on file is that very high, concentrated doses of spearmint might add a little extra stress to your liver, and amoxicillin is grouped with medicines that can occasionally affect the liver too. The thinking is that combining them could, in theory, raise that small risk. Amoxicillin isn't a prodrug, so spearmint wouldn't make it stronger or weaker as an antibiotic. This is really just about the liver.
I want to keep this in perspective. This concern comes only from animal studies using lots of spearmint over a month, and it has never been reported in people. The amount in a cup of tea or your cooking is very unlikely to matter. If you take big spearmint supplements or have liver issues, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

About Spearmint
What is Spearmint?
- Digestive upset and indigestion
- Nausea
- Hormonal acne and unwanted hair (PCOS-related)
- Memory and focus
- Mild stress and anxiety
- Joint discomfort
Spearmint is a common culinary mint that is generally safe in food and tea amounts. Early research suggests possible benefits for digestion, mild hormone-related issues (such as excess facial hair in women), and memory, but the evidence is still limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially if you are pregnant or have a health condition.
About Amoxicillin
What Is Amoxicillin Used For?
Brand names: Amoxil Capsules, Trimox, Wymox, Amix, Amoram, Amoxident, Galenamox, Rimoxallin, Amoxil Injection
Amoxicillin treats infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It does not work on viruses. The label lists these uses:
- Ear, nose and throat infections
- Genitourinary tract (urinary and genital area) infections
- Skin and skin structure infections
- Lower respiratory tract (lung and airway) infections
- Adults only: H. pylori infection with duodenal ulcer disease, combined with other medicines
Amoxicillin for Oral Suspension (Amoxil and other labels) also lists acute uncomplicated gonorrhea. It is not recommended as a first guess for gonorrhea because of high resistance rates.
