Verapamil falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Spearmint interacts with.

Theoretically, high doses of spearmint might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.
Animal research suggests that drinking spearmint tea for 30 days can increase markers of liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and cause liver degeneration and necrosis, in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the honest picture for spearmint and verapamil. This isn't about spearmint changing how much verapamil is in your blood or how strongly it works on your heart and blood pressure. Instead, the concern is about the liver itself. Verapamil is one of many medicines that the liver has to process, and in rare cases it can stress the liver. The worry is that piling concentrated spearmint on top might add to that strain.

I want to be clear that this is theoretical. It comes from animal studies where large amounts of spearmint tea raised liver enzymes (AST and ALT). It hasn't been shown in people. Food and normal tea amounts are very unlikely to matter. If you're thinking about strong spearmint supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Verapamil

What Is Verapamil Used For?

Brand names: Isoptin SR, Verelan, Isoptin, Calan SR, Verelan SR, Calan, Covera HS, Verap, Veramil

Verapamil tablets and film-coated tablets are used to treat angina — including vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina, unstable angina, and chronic stable angina — as well as certain abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and high blood pressure (essential hypertension). For arrhythmias, regular-release tablets are used alongside digoxin to control heart rate in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation, and to help prevent episodes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), a type of rapid heartbeat.

Extended-release and sustained-release oral forms (tablets and capsules) are indicated specifically for high blood pressure. Verapamil hydrochloride injection is used in hospital settings for rapid conversion of SVT to normal rhythm and for temporary control of fast heart rates in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation.
