Spearmint + Morphine Sulfate
Morphine Sulfate brand names: MS Contin, Kadian, Avinza, Morphabond, Arymo ER.
Spearmint has a moderate interaction with Morphine Sulfate. Theoretically, spearmint might alter the sedative effects of CNS depressants.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Morphine Sulfate
Morphine Sulfate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Spearmint interacts with.
Animal research suggests that (-)-carvone, a major constituent of spearmint, has sedative effects. However, in humans, chewing spearmint-flavored gum induced arousal effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture with spearmint and morphine. Morphine is a strong opioid that calms the nervous system, which is why it can make you feel drowsy, slow your breathing, or leave you a little foggy. Spearmint isn't broken down through morphine the way some interactions work. The concern here is purely theoretical: one compound in spearmint, called carvone, made animals sleepy in lab studies, so in theory it might add a little to morphine's sedating side.
In real life, this is very weak evidence, and oddly, spearmint gum actually made people feel more alert. Food and tea amounts almost certainly won't matter. If you use concentrated spearmint supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and watch for extra drowsiness.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Morphine Sulfate page
“With morphine sulfate (MS Contin, Kadian, Avinza), an opioid powerful enough to slow breathing on its own, this list warrants genuine respect. Of the 172 supplements and foods on file, 8 carry a major rating, and most of those pile extra sedation onto a drug that already sedates.”

About Spearmint
What is Spearmint?
- Digestive upset and indigestion
- Nausea
- Hormonal acne and unwanted hair (PCOS-related)
- Memory and focus
- Mild stress and anxiety
- Joint discomfort
Spearmint is a common culinary mint that is generally safe in food and tea amounts. Early research suggests possible benefits for digestion, mild hormone-related issues (such as excess facial hair in women), and memory, but the evidence is still limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially if you are pregnant or have a health condition.
About Morphine
What Is Morphine Used For?
Brand names: MS Contin, Kadian, Avinza, Morphabond, Arymo ER
Morphine is used for pain that is severe enough to need an opioid and that other treatments cannot control well. It is meant for people who have not done well on, or cannot tolerate, other options.
Some uses depend on the product. Morphine sulfate tablets treat acute pain in adults and in children weighing at least 50 kg, and chronic pain in adults. Morphine oral solution (2 mg/mL and 4 mg/mL) treats acute and chronic pain in adults and acute pain in children 2 years and older. The 20 mg/mL oral solution is only for opioid-tolerant adults. Extended-release capsules and tablets, including MS Contin, are for severe, persistent pain that needs daily, long-term opioid treatment. Duramorph and preservative-free morphine injection can be given by vein, or into the epidural or intrathecal space (around the spinal cord). Infumorph and Mitigo are only for continuous epidural or intrathecal infusion for intractable chronic pain.
