Spearmint + Diazepam
Diazepam brand names: Valium, Valium injection, Diastat AcuDial, Valtoco.
Spearmint has a moderate interaction with Diazepam. Theoretically, spearmint might alter the sedative effects of CNS depressants.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Diazepam
Diazepam falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Spearmint interacts with.
Animal research suggests that (-)-carvone, a major constituent of spearmint, has sedative effects. However, in humans, chewing spearmint-flavored gum induced arousal effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture for diazepam (Valium) and spearmint. Diazepam already does the heavy lifting of calming your brain, which is how it eases anxiety, muscle spasms, and seizures. The concern on file is purely theoretical: one of spearmint's compounds, carvone, made animals sleepy in lab studies. In theory, that could add to diazepam's own drowsiness, leaving you more groggy, foggy, or unsteady.
But the human side is reassuring. People who chewed spearmint gum actually felt slightly more alert, not sleepier. So normal food and tea amounts almost certainly won't matter here. If you're considering a concentrated spearmint supplement while on diazepam, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, especially if you already feel sedated.

About Spearmint
What is Spearmint?
- Digestive upset and indigestion
- Nausea
- Hormonal acne and unwanted hair (PCOS-related)
- Memory and focus
- Mild stress and anxiety
- Joint discomfort
Spearmint is a common culinary mint that is generally safe in food and tea amounts. Early research suggests possible benefits for digestion, mild hormone-related issues (such as excess facial hair in women), and memory, but the evidence is still limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially if you are pregnant or have a health condition.
About Diazepam
What Is Diazepam Used For?
Brand names: Valium, Valium injection, Diastat AcuDial, Valtoco
Diazepam treats several different problems, depending on the product. Oral diazepam (tablets such as Valium, and oral solution) is used for anxiety disorders, short-term relief of anxiety symptoms, and symptom relief in acute alcohol withdrawal. It is also used alongside other treatments for muscle spasm and, adjunctively, for convulsive disorders (seizure disorders).
Diazepam injection is used for the same anxiety and alcohol withdrawal uses. It is also used before endoscopic procedures, before surgery, and before cardioversion (when given intravenously). It helps with muscle spasm and tetanus, and with status epilepticus (a prolonged, dangerous seizure) as an add-on. Diazepam rectal gel and Valtoco nasal spray are used only for seizure clusters (acute repetitive seizures) in people with epilepsy ages 2 and older.

Diazepam Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Diazepam as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Spearmint — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
