Diazepam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabinol (cbn) interacts with.

Theoretically, cannabinol might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that cannabinol potently inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 (along with a couple of others) to help break down diazepam. Lab studies suggest CBN can block that enzyme. If it does that in real people, diazepam could clear out more slowly and build up in your system, which may make its effects stronger. With a calming medication like Valium, that could mean extra drowsiness, dizziness, foggy thinking, poor balance, or slowed breathing, especially if you also drink alcohol or take other sedating medicines.

The honest part: this is only seen in test-tube research so far, never reported in actual patients, so it's theoretical. Diazepam isn't a prodrug, so the direction would be more effect, not less. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

What Is Diazepam Used For?

  • Diazepam is used to relieve anxiety and to control agitation caused by alcohol withdrawal. It is also used along with other medications to control muscle spasms and spasticity caused by certain neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy (condition that causes difficulty with movement and balance), paraplegia (inability to move parts of the body), athetosis (abnormal muscle contractions), and stiff-man syndrome (a rare disorder with muscle rigidity and stiffness). Diazepam is also used along with other medications to control seizures. Diazepam is in a class of medications called benzodiazepines. It works by calming abnormal overactivity in the brain.
