Montelukast Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabinol (cbn) interacts with.

Theoretically, cannabinol might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that cannabinol potently inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the simple version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2C9 to help clear montelukast (Singulair). Lab studies suggest CBN may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, montelukast could build up a bit higher than usual, which in theory might mean more of its side effects, things like headache, stomach upset, dizziness, or feeling unusually tired or down in mood.

The important part: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, not anything that has actually been reported in real patients. Montelukast also isn't a high-risk, narrow-margin drug, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since CBN products vary a lot in quality, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Montelukast Used For?

Montelukast is used for the long-term prevention and treatment of asthma in children and adults, and for preventing breathing problems triggered by exercise (exercise-induced bronchoconstriction). It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis (year-round nasal allergies). The age ranges covered depend on the specific product form — tablets, chewable tablets, and oral granules are each approved for different age groups.

For allergic rhinitis, montelukast should be reserved for people who haven't responded well to other treatments, because its potential mental health risks may outweigh the benefits when nasal allergy symptoms are mild and other options work. It is not a rescue treatment for sudden asthma attacks — always keep a fast-acting inhaler on hand.
