Trimipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabinol (cbn) interacts with.

Theoretically, cannabinol might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that cannabinol potently inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to help clear trimipramine. Lab studies suggest CBN can block that enzyme, so in theory trimipramine could clear more slowly and build up in your system. Since trimipramine works as-is (it's not a prodrug), higher levels would mean stronger effects and a greater chance of side effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness on standing, or a faster heartbeat.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though: this is only seen in test-tube research and hasn't been reported in real people. Tricyclics like trimipramine do have a fairly narrow safety window, so it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

What Is Trimipramine Used For?

Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
