Simeprevir Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INHIBITORS — the group Cannabinol (cbn) interacts with.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inhibitors might increase the levels and clinical effects of cannabinol.
In vitro research shows that CYP3A4 enzymes are involved in the 8-hydroxylation of cannabinol. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your hepatitis C medicine, simeprevir (Olysio), can block a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. As it happens, that same enzyme helps break down CBN. So in theory, taking them together could slow how fast your body clears the CBN, letting it build up a bit. That might mean stronger CBN effects than expected, like extra drowsiness, grogginess, or lightheadedness.

I want to be honest about how shaky this is. This concern comes only from lab (test-tube) research, and it has not been seen in real people. Simeprevir itself isn't a prodrug, so it still works normally. Since cannabis products vary so much and CBN sleep claims aren't well proven, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Simeprevir Used For?

Brand name: Olysio

  • Simeprevir is used along with ribavirin (Copegus, Rebetol) and peginterferon alfa (Pegasys) to treat chronic hepatitis C (an ongoing viral infection that damages the liver). Simeprevir is in a class of medications called protease inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the body. Simeprevir may not prevent the spread of hepatitis C to other people.
