Spearmint + Topiramate
Topiramate brand names: Topamax, Trokendi XR, Qudexy XR, Eprontia.
Spearmint has a moderate interaction with Topiramate. Theoretically, spearmint might alter the sedative effects of CNS depressants.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Topiramate
Topiramate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Spearmint interacts with.
Animal research suggests that (-)-carvone, a major constituent of spearmint, has sedative effects. However, in humans, chewing spearmint-flavored gum induced arousal effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture for spearmint and topiramate. This one is purely theoretical, based on pharmacology rather than real-world reports in people. The thinking is that a spearmint compound called carvone showed mild sedative effects in animal studies. Since topiramate can already make some folks feel drowsy, slowed down, or foggy (it's nicknamed "Dopamax" for that reason), the worry is that the two together might add up to a bit more sleepiness.
In reality, the evidence is weak, and oddly enough chewing spearmint gum actually made people feel more alert in one study. Food and tea amounts almost certainly won't matter. If you're using concentrated spearmint supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and watch for extra grogginess. Don't change anything on your own.

About Spearmint
What is Spearmint?
- Digestive upset and indigestion
- Nausea
- Hormonal acne and unwanted hair (PCOS-related)
- Memory and focus
- Mild stress and anxiety
- Joint discomfort
Spearmint is a common culinary mint that is generally safe in food and tea amounts. Early research suggests possible benefits for digestion, mild hormone-related issues (such as excess facial hair in women), and memory, but the evidence is still limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially if you are pregnant or have a health condition.
About Topiramate
What Is Topiramate Used For?
Brand names: Topamax, Trokendi XR, Qudexy XR, Eprontia
Topiramate treats certain seizures in people with epilepsy. It is used alone as a first treatment (monotherapy) for partial-onset seizures and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures. It is also used as an add-on (adjunctive) therapy for those seizures and for seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
Most products are also approved to prevent migraine in people 12 and older. The topiramate tablets listed in the evidence (generic tablets) are labeled for epilepsy only. Minimum ages for epilepsy use differ by product: 2 years and older for Topamax, Qudexy XR, Eprontia, and topiramate capsules, solution and tablets; 6 years and older for Trokendi XR and generic topiramate extended-release capsules.

Topiramate Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Topiramate as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Spearmint — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
