Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone
Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Spearmint interacts with.
Animal research suggests that (-)-carvone, a major constituent of spearmint, has sedative effects. However, in humans, chewing spearmint-flavored gum induced arousal effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
The Damason-P combo you're asking about contains hydrocodone, which is an opioid that can make you feel drowsy and relaxed. The concern here is simple: spearmint might add a little to that calming, sleepy effect, at least in theory. One plant compound in spearmint (carvone) looked mildly sedating in animal studies, while spearmint gum actually seemed to wake people up. So the science is mixed and far from settled.
In real life, the spearmint in your tea or chewing gum is very unlikely to cause any problem. With concentrated spearmint supplements, just stay alert for extra drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling more out of it than usual. If you're starting a spearmint supplement, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
