What’s inside
Full disclosure
Uva Ursi is a single active ingredient — bearberry leaf extract in powder form. There are no inactive ingredients listed for this product.
Does it work?
Leans against
The evidence for uva ursi is mixed. For urinary tract infections, the data suggests it's possibly ineffective.
For bronchitis and benign prostate enlargement, there isn't enough reliable evidence to know either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Uva ursi is generally well tolerated at low doses used short-term. The most common side effects are mild: diarrhea, nausea, stomach upset, and vomiting.
At very high doses (20 grams of dried herb or more), it can cause serious effects like shortness of breath, convulsions, delirium, and tinnitus; doses of 30 grams or higher may be fatal. Because of toxicity risk with prolonged use, this product is meant for short-term use only.
Avoid uva ursi if you're pregnant — it may stimulate the uterus and lacks safety data. There isn't enough safety information for breastfeeding either, so skip it during that time.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you before you start.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking uva ursi, check with your pharmacist or doctor if you take anything metabolized by CYP2C19 or CYP3A4 enzymes in your liver (Moderate), glucuronidated drugs (Moderate), lithium (Moderate), urinary acidifying agents (Moderate), or P-glycoprotein substrates (Minor). No interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check — but that doesn't mean none exist.
Your medications are individual to you, so verify them before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Uva ursi is best considered for short-term use only, and only if you don't take medications that interact with it — especially those metabolized by your liver or containing lithium. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, avoid it.
Check your exact medications with the tool on this page and discuss the results with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Bearberry Leaf Extract monograph & interactionsUva Ursi (Bearberry Leaf Extract) by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Uva Ursi by BulkSupplements.com can interact with medications through its bearberry leaf extract.
The most serious concern is with drugs metabolized by your liver's CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 enzymes (Moderate severity) — uva ursi may slow how your body clears these medications, potentially raising their levels. Lab tests suggest this happens, but it hasn't been seen in actual patients yet.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Uva ursi also theoretically affects glucuronidated drugs (Moderate severity), which are broken down by a different metabolic pathway — it may increase their levels. Lithium is another Moderate concern: uva ursi's diuretic properties might reduce how much lithium your kidneys excrete, raising blood levels and risking toxicity.
Additionally, urinary acidifying agents (like some antacids and supplements) may reduce uva ursi's effect on the urinary tract itself, since the supplement works best in alkaline urine.
Finally, uva ursi may alter levels of P-glycoprotein substrates (Minor severity), a group of drugs transported by a cellular pump. Altogether, these interactions span 804 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of yours are affected.

Bearberry Leaf Extract
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit cytochrome CYP2C19. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, uva ursi may increase levels of drugs metabolized by glucuronidation.
In vitro, uva ursi extract appears to strongly inhibit UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) 1A1 (UGT1A1). However, uva ursi extract does not appear to inhibit UGT1A1 in animal models. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Lithium
Theoretically, uva ursi may increase lithium levels, necessitating a decrease in dose.
Uva ursi may have diuretic properties. Diuretics may increase lithium reabsorption with sodium in the proximal tubule of the kidney. Theoretically, uva ursi might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Urinary Acidifying Agents
Effects of uva ursi in the urinary tract may be reduced by urinary acidifying agents.
Uva ursi seems to work best in alkaline urine. Theoretically, taking uva ursi with medications known to acidify the urine may decrease any effects of uva ursi on the urinary tract.
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, uva ursi may alter the levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.
