Nimodipine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version for nimodipine: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this medicine out of your body. In lab dish studies, uva ursi appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, less nimodipine would be broken down, so more could linger in your bloodstream.

Since nimodipine relaxes blood vessels, having extra around could push your blood pressure too low, leaving you dizzy, lightheaded, flushed, or with a faster heartbeat. I want to be honest though: this effect has only been seen in the lab, never confirmed in people, so it's theoretical. Nimodipine is also typically used in a hospital after a brain bleed, where your team watches you closely. Still, mention any supplements to your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Nimodipine Used For?

Nimodipine — available as capsules and oral solution — is used to improve neurological outcomes after a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a type of bleeding that occurs around the brain when an intracranial berry aneurysm ruptures. It works to reduce the incidence and severity of ischemic deficits (areas of the brain damaged by reduced blood flow) that can follow this kind of bleed.

This use applies across nimodipine capsules, nimodipine oral solution, and Nymalize oral solution. It is indicated for adult patients regardless of how severe their neurological condition is at the time treatment begins.
