Mobocertinib Succinate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Exkivity (mobocertinib). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this cancer drug out. In lab dish studies, uva ursi seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, mobocertinib could build up higher than intended, which may mean more of its known side effects, such as diarrhea, nausea, mouth sores, rash, and importantly heart rhythm changes (a longer QT interval). Mobocertinib is not a prodrug, so blocking CYP3A4 would raise its levels, not lower them.

The good news: this is only a theoretical, test-tube finding, never confirmed in humans. Still, because mobocertinib is a serious medication, please don't add uva ursi without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

  • Mobocertinib is used to treat a certain type of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that cannot be removed by surgery and has spread to other parts of the body either during or after treatment with platinum chemotherapy medications. Mobocertinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop or slow the spread of cancer cells and may help shrink tumors.
