V-Zymes contains 15 ingredients spanning digestive enzymes, probiotics, and prebiotic fiber. The active digestive enzymes include bromelain (a pineapple protease), amylase, lipase, lactase, cellulase, invertase, glucoamylase, and proteolytic enzymes (acid protease and neutral protease), which together help break down proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and fiber.
The probiotic portion includes three live beneficial bacteria — Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus sporogenes, and Bifidobacterium bifidum — meant to support gut health. The prebiotic fiber includes larch arabinogalactan, sunfiber hydrolyzed guar gum, and Fibersol-2, which feed beneficial bacteria.
Inactive ingredients are gelatin, vegetable magnesium stearate, and silica.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Evidence for most ingredients in V-Zymes is limited or mixed. Bromelain shows insufficient reliable evidence for allergic rhinitis, burns, cancer, nerve damage from chemotherapy, chronic vein problems, and diabetes.
Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance. The probiotics — Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus sporogenes — are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and antibiotic-associated diarrhea; Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections.
Lipase and larch arabinogalactan both lack established evidence in our data for their claimed uses. Most of the enzymes do not have rated effectiveness data on file.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bromelain is generally well tolerated short-term, but long-term safety evidence is limited. Common side effects are diarrhea, flatulence, stomach upset, and headache; allergic reactions including asthma can occur if inhaled, and IgE-mediated allergic reactions are possible.
The live probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults but carry rare risks of serious infection (bacteremia, sepsis) in people who are severely ill or immunocompromised. Lipase is generally well tolerated, though no adverse effects have been thoroughly evaluated; avoid in premature infants.
Lactase is generally well tolerated and likely safe in pregnancy. The proteolytic enzymes may cause digestive upset or allergic reactions.
Bromelain is not recommended in pregnancy and should be avoided while breastfeeding. Lipase, lactase, Lactobacillus sporogenes, and Bifidobacterium bifidum all warrant medical advice before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding due to limited data.

Before you take V-Zymes, check if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, apixaban) — bromelain increases bleeding risk (Moderate severity). Antibiotics are another must-check: all three probiotics in this formula lose effectiveness when taken at the same time, so you'll need to space them out (Moderate severity).
If you take immunosuppressant drugs (cyclosporine, tacrolimus, mycophenolate, azathioprine), the larch arabinogalactan may interfere with them (Moderate severity). For tetracycline antibiotics, bromelain's interaction is minor and unproven in humans, but worth mentioning to your pharmacist.

The most serious is bromelain, which has Moderate severity interactions with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel) — it may increase bleeding risk. There's also a case report of minor bruising when bromelain was combined with naproxen.

Three live-organism probiotics in this product — Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus sporogenes (Bacillus coagulans), and Bifidobacterium bifidum — all carry Moderate severity interactions with antibiotics. Taking them at the same time may reduce the probiotic's effectiveness, since antibiotics can kill the beneficial organisms.
Additionally, larch arabinogalactan may theoretically interfere with immunosuppressant drugs (such as cyclosporine, tacrolimus, and mycophenolate) due to immune-boosting effects.
Bromelain also has a Minor interaction with tetracycline antibiotics, though a human study found no actual change in tetracycline levels. Lipase, lactase, and the proteolytic enzymes (acid protease and neutral protease) were checked and showed no interactions documented in our data — though that is not a guarantee none exist.

Probiotic Blend
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
FiberAid Larch Arabinogalactans
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, larch arabinogalactan might interfere with immunosuppression therapy due to immunostimulant effects. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and other drugs.
