What Is Cabergoline Used For?

Cabergoline tablets are used in adults to treat hyperprolactinemic disorders — conditions where the body produces too much prolactin, a hormone made by the pituitary gland. This excess prolactin can cause irregular periods, unwanted breast milk production, and fertility problems.
The cause may be idiopathic (no clear reason found) or due to a pituitary adenoma (a noncancerous tumor on the pituitary gland). Cabergoline is not approved to stop breast milk production after childbirth, and should not be used for that purpose.
