Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CORTICOSTEROIDS
Why this applies to Triamcinolone
Triamcinolone falls under CORTICOSTEROIDS — the group Alder Buckthorn interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Alder buckthorn is a stimulant laxative, and when it gets your bowels moving hard, your body can lose extra potassium through the stool. Triamcinolone, like other corticosteroids, can also nudge potassium levels down. Put the two together and, in theory, your potassium could drop lower than either would cause alone.
I'll be honest: this concern is theoretical, based on how the two work rather than strong studies, so don't panic. Still, low potassium can leave you feeling tired, with muscle cramps, weakness, or an irregular heartbeat. The risk is higher if you take buckthorn for more than a few days or use higher steroid doses. Before combining them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

What is Alder Buckthorn?
- Constipation
- Bowel cleansing before procedures

About Triamcinolone
What Is Triamcinolone Used For?
Brand names: Aristocort, Kenacort, Adcortyl Intra-articular / Intradermal, Kenalog Intra-articular / Intramuscular, Adcortyl in Orabase, Triesence
Triamcinolone is available in many forms — injections, creams, ointments, nasal sprays, dental pastes, and eye injections — each approved for specific uses. Injectable forms given into muscle are used when oral steroids aren't an option, covering severe allergies (like asthma flares, severe skin reactions, drug reactions, and serum sickness), serious skin diseases, certain endocrine (hormonal) disorders, and more.
Injections given directly into a joint (intra-articular) or soft tissue help with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, gout flares, bursitis, and tendon inflammation. Injections into skin lesions (intralesional) treat conditions such as keloids, alopecia areata, and psoriatic plaques. Triesence (an ophthalmic injection) is specifically indicated for eye conditions like uveitis and temporal arteritis, and for visualization during eye surgery. Topical creams, ointments, lotions, and sprays relieve itching and inflammation from corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions. Dental paste forms (Oralone, Kourzeq) treat painful mouth sores from injury. Nasal sprays temporarily relieve hay fever and upper respiratory allergy symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and congestion.
