Here's the gist for rabeprazole (Aciphex), your acid-reducing reflux medicine. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this drug from your body. In a test-tube setting, American elder appeared to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, rabeprazole could linger a bit longer and its levels might creep up.

The important part: this is only laboratory evidence, not something seen in actual people. Rabeprazole is also a fairly forgiving, well-tolerated drug, so even a small bump usually isn't dangerous. At most you might notice mild side effects like headache or an upset stomach. Properly prepared elderberry in normal amounts is unlikely to cause real trouble, but it's always smart to mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

American elder is a North American plant whose cooked, ripe berries and flowers are used mainly for colds, flu, and general immune support. The science behind these uses is limited and most studies focus on the closely related European black elder (Sambucus nigra), so benefits are uncertain. Only properly prepared berries and flowers should be used, since raw berries, leaves, bark, and seeds can cause poisoning.

What Is Rabeprazole Used For?

Brand names: Aciphex, Aciphex Sprinkle

Rabeprazole delayed-release tablets treat a range of acid-related conditions in adults, including healing and maintenance of erosive or ulcerative GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), symptomatic GERD, duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. They are also used alongside antibiotics (amoxicillin and clarithromycin) to eradicate H. pylori bacteria and reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer coming back.

In adolescents 12 years and older, rabeprazole delayed-release tablets are approved for short-term treatment of symptomatic GERD. Both AcipHex and Rabeprazole Sodium delayed-release tablets share this indication set for adults and adolescents 12 and older.
