Perampanel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Ashitaba interacts with.

In vitro research shows that ashitaba extract inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A2. Theoretically, concomitant use of ashitaba with CYP1A2 substrates might decrease the clearance of these substrates and increase the risk for adverse effects. However, this interaction has yet to be reported in humans. Until more is known, use with caution.

Here's the gist for Perampanel (Fycompa). Your body partly relies on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to clear this seizure medicine. In test-tube studies, ashitaba seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in people, perampanel could clear a little more slowly and build up, which might mean stronger side effects like sleepiness, dizziness, trouble with balance, irritability, or mood changes.

I want to be honest about how soft this is. This is a theoretical concern based only on lab data, and it has never actually been reported in real patients. Eating ashitaba as a vegetable is unlikely to be an issue. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them with perampanel.

What Is Perampanel Used For?

Brand name: Fycompa

Perampanel — available as Fycompa and in generic forms — is used to treat partial-onset seizures (seizures that start in one area of the brain) in patients with epilepsy aged 4 years and older. Both the tablet and oral suspension forms carry this indication.

Perampanel tablets and oral suspension are also approved as add-on (adjunctive) therapy for primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal seizures involving the whole brain at once) in patients with epilepsy aged 12 years and older. Fycompa oral suspension and tablet share both indications.
