Propranolol Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Ashitaba interacts with.

In vitro research shows that ashitaba extract inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A2. Theoretically, concomitant use of ashitaba with CYP1A2 substrates might decrease the clearance of these substrates and increase the risk for adverse effects. However, this interaction has yet to be reported in humans. Until more is known, use with caution.

Here's the gist with ashitaba and propranolol. Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP1A2 to break down and clear propranolol. In test-tube studies, ashitaba's plant compounds appear to slow that same enzyme down. If that played out in people, propranolol could be cleared a bit more slowly and build up, which might nudge its effects stronger. With propranolol that could mean a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, dizziness, tiredness, or cool hands and feet.

I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on lab work, and hasn't actually been reported in real patients. Everyday culinary amounts of ashitaba are unlikely to matter, but concentrated supplements are less predictable. Since propranolol for infant hemangioma is dosed carefully, please run any supplement past your prescriber or pharmacist first.

What Is Propranolol (Infantile Hemangioma) Used For?

Brand name: Hemangeol

This intravenous (IV) form of propranolol is used in hospital settings to treat serious, life-threatening heart rhythm problems. It works on several types of abnormal rhythms, including those that happen during anesthesia or are caused by drug toxicity.

Specific uses include fast heart rhythms coming from the upper chambers of the heart (supraventricular tachycardia), dangerous rhythms caused by too much digitalis in the body, and certain fast rhythms triggered by excess stress hormones (catecholamines) during surgery.
