Here's the key thing to know: American hellebore is a poisonous plant, not a safe supplement. Its alkaloids push your heart rate and blood pressure way down on their own, and they also slow nerve signals to the heart. Propranolol is a beta blocker that already lowers heart rate and blood pressure, so stacking the two together pulls in the same dangerous direction.

Combined, you could see a very slow heartbeat, a sharp drop in blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, or drowsiness. In an infant taking the oral solution for a hemangioma, this is especially risky and could be life-threatening. This isn't theoretical, the heart effects of hellebore are well documented. Please don't use any hellebore product, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist about anything you're considering.

This intravenous (IV) form of propranolol is used in hospital settings to treat serious, life-threatening heart rhythm problems. It works on several types of abnormal rhythms, including those that happen during anesthesia or are caused by drug toxicity.

Specific uses include fast heart rhythms coming from the upper chambers of the heart (supraventricular tachycardia), dangerous rhythms caused by too much digitalis in the body, and certain fast rhythms triggered by excess stress hormones (catecholamines) during surgery.
