Propranolol Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group 1,3-dmaa interacts with.

1,3-DMAA strongly inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) enzymes in vitro. Theoretically, 1,3-DMAA can increase levels of CYP2D6 substrates. Some of drugs that are CYP2D6 substrates include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the bigger picture first: DMAA is a banned stimulant that on its own can spike blood pressure and heart rate, and it has been tied to serious heart events. Propranolol is a beta blocker that does the opposite, calming the heart and lowering blood pressure, so pairing a powerful stimulant with it is already a poor combination.

On top of that, lab studies suggest DMAA may block CYP2D6, one of the enzymes your liver uses to clear propranolol. If that happens, propranolol levels could climb, leading to a very slow heart rate, low blood pressure, dizziness, or fatigue. This enzyme part is theoretical and based only on test-tube data. Even so, DMAA itself isn't safe, so please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them.

Brand name: Hemangeol

This intravenous (IV) form of propranolol is used in hospital settings to treat serious, life-threatening heart rhythm problems. It works on several types of abnormal rhythms, including those that happen during anesthesia or are caused by drug toxicity.

Specific uses include fast heart rhythms coming from the upper chambers of the heart (supraventricular tachycardia), dangerous rhythms caused by too much digitalis in the body, and certain fast rhythms triggered by excess stress hormones (catecholamines) during surgery.
