Oliceridine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Atractylodes interacts with.

Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to inhibit CYP3A1 activity, which is a homolog to the human CYP3A4 enzyme. This effect has not been shown in humans.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear oliceridine (Olinvyk), the IV opioid given for short-term, moderate to severe pain in hospital settings. In lab and animal studies, atractylodes seems to slow a related enzyme down a bit. If that same blocking happened in people, oliceridine could hang around longer and hit harder, which for an opioid means more drowsiness, slowed breathing, low blood pressure, nausea, or constipation.

Now the reassuring part: this is purely theoretical and based only on animal data, not anything proven in humans. Since oliceridine is given by a medical team who can adjust your dose and watch you closely, it's still smart to mention any supplements you take to your doctor or pharmacist.

Olinvyk (oliceridine) injection is approved for adults to manage acute pain that is severe enough to require an intravenous opioid analgesic. It is used only when alternative treatments are ineffective, not tolerated, or otherwise unable to provide adequate pain control.

Because of serious risks including addiction, misuse, overdose, and death, Olinvyk is reserved for situations where other pain management options are not sufficient. It is not intended for routine or chronic pain management.
