Atractylodes + Diclofenac Sodium
Diclofenac Sodium brand names: Voltaren XR, Voltaren, Voltaren SR, Diclo, Difenac, and others.
Atractylodes has a moderate interaction with Diclofenac Sodium. Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Diclofenac Sodium
Diclofenac Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Atractylodes interacts with.
Laboratory research suggests that atractylenolides II and III, constituents of atractylodes, reduce platelet activation. So far, this has not been shown in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with diclofenac and atractylodes. Diclofenac is an NSAID, and on its own it can already nudge up bleeding risk a bit, especially in the stomach (think upset stomach, heartburn, or in rarer cases an ulcer or GI bleed). Atractylodes has shown, in lab dish studies only, that two of its compounds may make platelets a little less sticky. Stack those two together and the theoretical concern is a slightly higher chance of bruising or bleeding.
I want to be honest, though: this has not been seen in actual people, so the evidence is weak. Diclofenac is not a prodrug, so this isn't about changing how it's activated. Still, if you're on diclofenac and want to try atractylodes, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Diclofenac Sodium page
“Diclofenac (Voltaren), a daily mainstay for arthritis and joint pain, comes with a supplement list that calls for real vigilance. Of the 308 ingredients on file, 7 rate major, and roughly two hundred entries share a single theme: anything with blood-thinning activity adds to diclofenac's own bleeding risk, especially in the stomach.”

About Atractylodes
What is Atractylodes?
- Digestive upset and poor appetite
- Bloating and fluid retention
- General fatigue or 'weakness'
- Diarrhea
- Support within traditional formulas
Atractylodes is a root used for centuries in traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Thai medicine, mostly for digestive complaints and fatigue, often as part of multi-herb formulas. Modern research is still early and mostly from lab and animal studies, so its true benefits in people are not well proven. If you want to try it, talk with a pharmacist or doctor first, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Diclofenac Sodium Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Diclofenac Sodium as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Atractylodes — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
