ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Clopidogrel
Clopidogrel falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Babassu interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Clopidogrel (Plavix) is a blood thinner that keeps your platelets from clumping together and forming clots. Babassu, in early animal studies, seems to have its own mild clot-slowing effect. So if you stacked the two, the theory is that your blood could become a little 'thinner' than intended, which raises the chance of bruising more easily, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or taking longer to stop bleeding from a cut.
I want to be honest about how solid this is. This concern comes only from lab and animal research, not from people, so it's more of a 'theoretical, keep an eye on it' situation than a proven problem. Eating babassu in normal food amounts is unlikely to matter much, but concentrated supplements are a bigger question mark. Before adding any babassu product, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Babassu
What is Babassu?
- Skin and hair care
- Inflammation
- Wound healing
- Digestive complaints
- General wellness
Babassu comes from a Brazilian palm tree, and its oil and mesocarp flour are used in foods, cosmetics, and traditional remedies. Early lab and animal studies suggest possible anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects, but there is very little human research to confirm any health benefit. If you want to try it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.
About Clopidogrel
What Is Clopidogrel Used For?
Brand name: Plavix
Clopidogrel is used to lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in people whose arteries are already affected by disease.
Its supported uses are acute coronary syndrome (including unstable angina, non-ST-elevation heart attack and ST-elevation heart attack), a recent heart attack, a recent stroke, and established peripheral arterial disease (narrowed arteries, usually in the legs). For acute coronary syndrome, some product labels say it should be used together with aspirin.
