Babassu and Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine

Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Babassu interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that babassu has antithrombotic effects. Theoretically, babassu might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this combo product. The aspirin piece is what matters most, since aspirin is a blood thinner that keeps platelets from clumping together. In animal studies, babassu seems to have its own mild anti-clotting activity. So if you stack the two, in theory they could add up and make bleeding a little more likely. Think easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or a cut that takes longer to stop.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's only based on lab and animal research, not real people, so it's more of a caution than a red alert. Still, before adding babassu, run it by your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you take this regularly or have any bleeding concerns.

About Babassu

What is Babassu?

Babassu
  • Skin and hair care
  • Inflammation
  • Wound healing
  • Digestive complaints
  • General wellness

Babassu comes from a Brazilian palm tree, and its oil and mesocarp flour are used in foods, cosmetics, and traditional remedies. Early lab and animal studies suggest possible anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects, but there is very little human research to confirm any health benefit. If you want to try it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.
