Evidence from animal research suggests that babassu has antithrombotic effects. Theoretically, babassu might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

This combination product (Ascriptin Codeine) contains aspirin, which is the piece that matters here. Aspirin already thins your blood a bit by keeping platelets from clumping together. In animal and lab studies, babassu also seems to have a blood-thinning, anti-clotting effect. Stack the two and, at least in theory, you could bruise more easily, bleed a little longer from a cut, or in rarer cases have stomach or internal bleeding.

I want to be honest with you: this is theoretical, based only on animal research, not on people taking them together. Small culinary amounts of babassu are unlikely to be an issue, but concentrated supplement doses deserve a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially if you bruise easily or take other blood thinners.
