ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

Why this applies to Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, Naproxen Sodium

Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, Naproxen Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Babassu interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that babassu has antithrombotic effects. Theoretically, babassu might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to know about Aleve PM: it pairs naproxen, an anti-inflammatory pain reliever, with diphenhydramine, the sleep aid. The naproxen part is what matters here. Like other NSAIDs, naproxen can thin the blood a little and irritate the stomach lining, which raises bleeding risk on its own. Babassu, in early animal and lab studies only, seems to slow blood clotting too. So stacking the two could theoretically nudge your bleeding risk higher.

In real life that might look like easier bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach upset and dark stools. This is a theoretical concern, not proven in people, and a little babassu in food is unlikely to matter. Still, if you take concentrated babassu supplements, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Babassu

What is Babassu?

Babassu
  • Skin and hair care
  • Inflammation
  • Wound healing
  • Digestive complaints
  • General wellness

Babassu comes from a Brazilian palm tree, and its oil and mesocarp flour are used in foods, cosmetics, and traditional remedies. Early lab and animal studies suggest possible anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects, but there is very little human research to confirm any health benefit. If you want to try it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.
