Theoretically, berberine might have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research suggests that berberine can have hypotensive effects. Also, a clinical study suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with amlodipine alone.

Here's the simple version: berberine may gently lower blood pressure on its own. When you pair it with lisinopril, which is already working to relax your blood vessels and bring your pressure down, the two can add up. That means your blood pressure could drop more than expected.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially when standing up quickly, and some people feel tired or a bit washed out. Keep in mind this is mostly based on animal studies plus one small human trial using a different blood pressure drug, so the evidence for lisinopril specifically is fairly weak. It's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before starting berberine, and checking your readings at home can help you keep an eye on things.

What Is Lisinopril Used For?

Brand names: Zestril, Prinivil, Qbrelis

Lisinopril treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older, and can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. The tablet combination product containing lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide is specifically indicated for high blood pressure.

Lisinopril is also used as an add-on therapy to reduce signs and symptoms of systolic heart failure, and to reduce the risk of death in people who are hemodynamically stable (have reasonably stable circulation) within 24 hours of an acute heart attack (acute myocardial infarction).
