Here's the idea behind this one. Some yeast and mushroom beta-glucans may gently nudge the immune system to be more active. Durvalumab (Imfinzi) already works by taking the brakes off your immune system so it can attack cancer, so the two aren't pulling in opposite directions the way they would with a true immune-suppressing drug. The bigger theoretical worry is extra immune stimulation possibly adding to durvalumab's own immune-related side effects, like inflammation in the lungs, gut, skin, or thyroid.

I want to be straight with you though: this is based only on lab and animal data, so it's largely theoretical. The oat and barley beta-glucans used for cholesterol act mostly as gut fiber and are a different story. Still, because you're on cancer therapy, please run any beta-glucan supplement past your oncology team first.

The strongest evidence supports the oat and barley types for modestly lowering cholesterol and blood sugar, while immune-related claims from yeast and mushroom sources are far less proven. About Durvalumab Injection

What Is Durvalumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Imfinzi

Imfinzi is used to treat a wide range of cancers in adults. For lung cancer, it is approved for resectable non-small cell lung cancer (given before and after surgery), unresectable Stage III non-small cell lung cancer (after chemoradiation), metastatic non-small cell lung cancer, limited-stage small cell lung cancer (after chemoradiation), and extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.

Beyond lung cancer, Imfinzi is also approved for locally advanced or metastatic biliary tract cancer (cancers of the bile ducts and gallbladder), unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), mismatch repair deficient (dMMR) advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer, BCG-naive high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, muscle-invasive bladder cancer, and resectable gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (stomach cancer at the junction with the esophagus). Most of these uses involve Imfinzi given alongside other chemotherapy drugs.
