Tecvayli works very differently from a cholesterol pill. It is a bispecific antibody that revs up your own T cells to attack multiple myeloma. The concern here is purely theoretical: certain beta-glucans, especially the yeast and mushroom types, may gently stimulate the immune system. Teclistamab is not a prodrug, so this isn't about how it's broken down. The worry is more about whether an immune-boosting supplement could push against the careful balance your care team is managing.

Honestly, this is based on lab and animal data only, so the real-world risk is unclear. Food amounts of oats or barley are very unlikely to matter. Still, while you're on Tecvayli, please run any concentrated beta-glucan supplement past your oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Teclistamab-cqyv Injection Used For?

Brand name: Tecvayli

Tecvayli (teclistamab-cqyv) injection is used to treat adults with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma — a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow — whose disease has come back or stopped responding to earlier treatments.

Tecvayli is approved in two settings: as monotherapy for patients who have received at least four prior lines of therapy (including a proteasome inhibitor, an immunomodulatory agent, and an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody); and in combination with daratumumab and hyaluronidase-fihj for patients who have received at least one prior line of therapy including a proteasome inhibitor and an immunomodulatory agent.
