Here's the short version: your birth control pill, norgestrel, is broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The concern with BMPEA is that, in lab (test tube) studies, it slowed that enzyme down by a little over a third. If that happened in the body, your norgestrel might clear a bit more slowly and build up, which could mean more progestin-type side effects like spotting, breast tenderness, mood changes, or nausea.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's theoretical, based only on lab data, with no human studies behind it. My bigger worry is BMPEA itself, since it's an unapproved stimulant linked to heart and blood pressure risks. I'd skip it and talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Brand names: Ovrette, Orval 21

Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.

When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.
