Captopril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Bishop's Weed interacts with.

Bishop's weed constituents seem to cause photosensitivity. Theoretically, concomitant use of bishop's weed with photosensitizing drugs might result in increased photosensitivity.
Some drugs that cause photosensitivity include amitriptyline (Elavil), quinolones (Ciprofloxacin, others), sulfa drugs (Septra, Bactrim, others), and tetracycline.

Here's the simple version: Bishop's Weed contains psoralens, natural compounds that make your skin much more reactive to sunlight. The hydrochlorothiazide ('water pill') part of your blood pressure combo is already known to do something similar. It can leave skin more prone to burning and rashes after sun exposure. So pairing the two could stack that effect, meaning you might sunburn faster or break out in a rash on sun-exposed skin even on a mild day.

I'll be honest, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on weak, anecdotal reports, so it's not a reason to panic. Still, Bishop's Weed isn't something to take on your own. If you're considering it, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, and practice good sun protection in the meantime.

Bishop's Weed (Ammi majus) is a flowering plant whose seeds contain natural light-sensitizing compounds called psoralens, which have been studied mainly for skin conditions like vitiligo and psoriasis when combined with light therapy. The plant is potentially toxic and can cause severe skin and eye reactions when exposed to sunlight, so it is not something to take on your own. If you are interested in psoralen-based treatments, work with a dermatologist rather than self-treating.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
