Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Busulfan
Busulfan falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Blond Psyllium interacts with.
Psyllium seems to have variable effects on drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take psyllium 30-60 minutes after oral medications. Animal research shows that blond psyllium delays and increases the absorption of metformin and ethinyl estradiol. Conversely, case reports and animal research suggest that blond psyllium might reduce absorption of lithium, digoxin, olanzapine, and carbamazepine. Finally, some pharmacokinetic studies show that psyllium does not affect the absorption of levothyroxine or warfarin.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the practical picture with busulfan (Myleran). Psyllium is a gel-forming fiber, and when it's in your gut at the same time as a pill, it can sometimes grab onto the medicine and shift how much gets absorbed. The honest truth is that this is mostly theoretical for busulfan. We don't have studies showing a real problem, and the fiber could in theory raise, lower, or do nothing to its absorption.
Still, busulfan is a serious chemotherapy drug where the dose is carefully controlled, so I wouldn't want absorption wandering up or down. A simple fix is to separate them: take your busulfan first, then wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before your psyllium. Please run this by your oncology team or pharmacist before combining them, since your cancer care should stay tightly managed.

About Busulfan
What Is Busulfan Used For?
Brand names: Myleran, Busulfex
Busulfan is used to treat chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. The specific use depends on the form and product.
Myleran (oral tablet) is used for the palliative treatment of CML — meaning it helps control the disease and relieve symptoms. The intravenous injection forms (Busulfex and Busulfan Injection) are used in combination with another chemotherapy drug, cyclophosphamide, as a conditioning regimen to prepare the body before an allogeneic hematopoietic progenitor cell transplant (a bone marrow or stem cell transplant from a donor) for CML.
