Why this applies to Flurazepam

Flurazepam falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Blond Psyllium interacts with.

Theoretically, psyllium might increase, decrease, or have no effect on the absorption of oral drugs.
Psyllium seems to have variable effects on drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take psyllium 30-60 minutes after oral medications. Animal research shows that blond psyllium delays and increases the absorption of metformin and ethinyl estradiol. Conversely, case reports and animal research suggest that blond psyllium might reduce absorption of lithium, digoxin, olanzapine, and carbamazepine. Finally, some pharmacokinetic studies show that psyllium does not affect the absorption of levothyroxine or warfarin.

Here's the gist with flurazepam (Dalmane) and blond psyllium: because psyllium swells into a thick gel in your gut, it can grab onto pills and slow or change how much medicine your body soaks up. The honest answer is that this is mostly theoretical for flurazepam. It hasn't been specifically studied, and the effect could go either way (a little less absorbed, a little more, or no real change at all).

Flurazepam isn't a prodrug, so it doesn't need activating. If psyllium did blunt absorption, you might just notice it works a bit less for sleep. The simple fix is timing: take your flurazepam first, then take psyllium 30 to 60 minutes later. If you're unsure, your pharmacist can help you sort out the spacing.

Blond psyllium is a soluble fiber from the seed husks of Plantago ovata, and it is one of the better-studied fiber supplements. It can help with both constipation and diarrhea and may modestly lower cholesterol and blood sugar. What Is Flurazepam Used For?

Flurazepam Hydrochloride capsules are used to treat insomnia. Specifically, they help with difficulty falling asleep, frequent wake-ups during the night, and early morning awakening.

Because insomnia is often short-lived, flurazepam is generally intended for short-term use. If sleep problems don't improve within 7 to 10 days of treatment, a healthcare provider should evaluate whether an underlying medical or psychiatric condition may be the cause.
