Blond Psyllium + Olanzapine
Olanzapine brand name: Zyprexa.
Olanzapine falls into 2 drug categories that Blond Psyllium can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, taking blond psyllium at the same time as olanzapine might reduce olanzapine absorption.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Blond Psyllium interacts with whole categories of medication. Olanzapine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Blond Psyllium in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
OLANZAPINE (Zyprexa)
1 of 2The fiber in blond psyllium might decrease the absorption of olanzapine. A single case report describes a reduction in the effectiveness of olanzapine when it was taken concomitantly with an unspecified type of psyllium 3 grams orally twice daily. This effect was reversed when psyllium was stopped.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with these two together. Blond psyllium forms a thick gel in your gut, and that gel can grab onto your olanzapine tablet before your body fully absorbs it. The worry isn't that olanzapine builds up, it's the opposite: you may absorb a little less of it, so it might not work as well. There's really only one case report behind this, where someone's olanzapine seemed less effective while on psyllium and bounced back once they stopped, so the evidence is thin.
Practically, if your symptoms (mood swings, racing thoughts, sleep) feel like they're slipping, that's worth mentioning. A simple fix is often spacing the doses a few hours apart, but please run the timing past your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

ORAL DRUGS
2 of 2Why this applies to Olanzapine
Olanzapine falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Blond Psyllium interacts with.
Psyllium seems to have variable effects on drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take psyllium 30-60 minutes after oral medications. Animal research shows that blond psyllium delays and increases the absorption of metformin and ethinyl estradiol. Conversely, case reports and animal research suggest that blond psyllium might reduce absorption of lithium, digoxin, olanzapine, and carbamazepine. Finally, some pharmacokinetic studies show that psyllium does not affect the absorption of levothyroxine or warfarin.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the practical concern with this pairing: that thick gel psyllium forms in your gut can grab onto olanzapine and keep some of it from being absorbed. A few case reports and animal studies suggest psyllium may lower how much olanzapine actually gets into your system, which could mean it works a little less well. For a medication that keeps mood and thinking steady, you don't want to quietly weaken its effect.
The good news is this is rated minor and the evidence is fairly weak, so a simple timing trick usually handles it. Take your olanzapine first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your psyllium. If you've noticed your symptoms creeping back, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor rather than adjusting anything on your own.
