Cobicistat falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Blond Psyllium interacts with.

Theoretically, psyllium might increase, decrease, or have no effect on the absorption of oral drugs.
Psyllium seems to have variable effects on drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take psyllium 30-60 minutes after oral medications. Animal research shows that blond psyllium delays and increases the absorption of metformin and ethinyl estradiol. Conversely, case reports and animal research suggest that blond psyllium might reduce absorption of lithium, digoxin, olanzapine, and carbamazepine. Finally, some pharmacokinetic studies show that psyllium does not affect the absorption of levothyroxine or warfarin.

Here's the practical picture with cobicistat (Tybost). This isn't a deep, enzyme-based interaction. Psyllium is a soluble fiber that swells into a gel in your gut, and that gel can sometimes grab onto pills and change how much gets absorbed. The honest truth is the direction is hard to predict. With some medicines psyllium slows or boosts absorption, with others it reduces it, and with several it does nothing at all.

Cobicistat's job is to keep your boosted HIV medicine (like atazanavir or darunavir) at the right level, so even small absorption changes are worth avoiding. The simple fix is timing. Take your cobicistat first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your psyllium. Check with your pharmacist or doctor to confirm what's best for your regimen.

Blond psyllium is a soluble fiber from the seed husks of Plantago ovata, and it is one of the better-studied fiber supplements. It can help with both constipation and diarrhea and may modestly lower cholesterol and blood sugar. It is generally well tolerated when taken with plenty of water, but always start low and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Cobicistat Used For?

Brand name: Tybost

Tybost (cobicistat) is not itself an HIV treatment — it works by slowing the breakdown of certain HIV medicines so they stay active in your body long enough to work. Specifically, Tybost is used to boost the HIV medicines atazanavir or darunavir (once-daily dosing) as part of a complete HIV-1 treatment regimen in adults and in children weighing at least 14 kg (about 31 lbs).

Tybost is not interchangeable with ritonavir (another booster) for all HIV medicines. It is not recommended with darunavir twice-daily, fosamprenavir, saquinavir, or tipranavir.
