Isoniazid, Rifampin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Boneset interacts with.

Boneset belongs to the genus Eupatorium, and many species of this genus contain hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs). Hepatotoxic PAs are substrates of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites. Some drugs that induce CYP3A4 include carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenobarbital, phenytoin (Dilantin), rifampin, rifabutin (Mycobutin), and others.

Here's the concern with combining boneset and Rifamate (which contains isoniazid plus rifampin). Boneset can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, plant compounds that are hard on the liver. Those alkaloids get processed by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and the rifampin in your medication speeds that enzyme up. In theory, that faster processing could turn more of boneset's alkaloids into toxic byproducts, putting extra strain on your liver.

What makes this worth flagging is that isoniazid and rifampin are already known to stress the liver on their own. Watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, nausea, or pain in your upper right belly. This worry is based on how these compounds behave in theory, not proven cases, but since boneset can be risky for the liver by itself, I'd run it by your doctor or pharmacist before using it.
