Almotriptan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.

Here's the gist for almotriptan: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this migraine medicine out of your system. Lab studies hint that boswellia can slow that enzyme down. If that happens in real life, almotriptan could hang around a bit longer than usual and feel stronger, which might mean more of its typical effects like a tight or flushed feeling in the chest, neck, or jaw, tingling, dizziness, or drowsiness.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, not real patient reports. Almotriptan isn't a prodrug, so the direction makes sense, but the actual risk is likely small. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you have any heart concerns.

About Almotriptan

What Is Almotriptan Used For?

Brand names: Axert, Almogran

Almotriptan tablets are used to treat migraine headache attacks — with or without aura — as they happen. They are not for preventing migraines before they start.

In adults, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine attacks. In adolescents ages 12 to 17, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine headache pain in those who typically have attacks lasting 4 hours or more when untreated. Note that in adolescents, the effect on migraine-related symptoms such as nausea and light sensitivity was not established in clinical trials. Almotriptan is not indicated for cluster headache or for hemiplegic or basilar migraine.
