Here's the gist for these two together. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to help process flutamide. In lab dish studies (not in people yet), Boswellia serrata appeared to slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in the body, flutamide could clear a bit slower and build up, which might mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like diarrhea, hot flashes, nausea, or liver irritation.

I want to be honest: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube data, so we don't know if it matters in real life. Still, since flutamide can stress the liver, it's worth a quick chat with your oncology team or pharmacist before adding boswellia. Don't change anything on your own.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.

Here's the gist if you're taking flutamide (Eulexin) for prostate cancer alongside Boswellia. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help process flutamide. In lab dish studies, boswellic acids mostly slow this enzyme down, though at very low amounts they may slightly speed it up. If the enzyme slows, more flutamide could hang around, which might mean more of its usual side effects, things like hot flashes, breast tenderness, diarrhea, or strain on the liver.

Now, the honest part: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube work, not real patients. We don't actually know if it matters in people. Since flutamide can already affect the liver, I'd just loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before adding Boswellia, rather than worry. Please don't change anything on your own.

What Is Flutamide Used For?

Brand names: Eulexin, Euflex

Eulexin (flutamide) capsules are used to treat prostate cancer in men. They are always used together with an LHRH agonist (a hormone-lowering injection), never alone.

Eulexin is indicated for two stages of prostate cancer: locally confined Stage B2-C prostate cancer (used alongside goserelin acetate and radiation therapy, starting eight weeks before radiation begins) and Stage D2 metastatic prostate cancer (cancer that has spread beyond the prostate, taken with an LHRH agonist until the disease progresses).
